How to use your medicine

  • Find a quiet space, and begin to pray.
  • Look at the cross: “Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only son…”(Jn 3:16)
  • On the large beads pray: Our Father…”
  • On the ten smaller beads pray: “Hail Mary…”
  • Then pray: ” Glory be…” This is called a decade of the rosary.
  • Whilst you pray the decade reflect on gods love.

Now begin, pray and reflect.

The Joyful Mysteries (Monday and Saturday)

Annunciation

Mary becomes the Mother of Jesus ‘in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent…  to a virgin…  the virgin’s name was Mary…  Listen! You are to conceive and bear a son…  Jesus… (LK 1:26-27,31)

The Visitation

Mary Visits her cousin Elizabeth ‘Mary set out… and quickly as she could… Elizabeth said “of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb…”! (LK 1:39,42)

The Nativity

The birth of Jesus ‘She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn’. (LK 2:7)

The Presentation

Mary and Joseph present Jesus to God in the Temple “They took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the lord’. (LK 2:22)

The finding of Jesus

Why were you looking for me?… Did you not know that i must be busy with my Father’s affairs?” (LK 2:49)

The Mysteries of Light (Thursday)

The Baptism

Jesus begins his public ministry. After Jesus” baptism… a voice spoke from heaven ,’This is my Son, the beloved ; my favour rest on him’. (Mt 3:17)

The Wedding at Cana

Jesus’ first sign. Jesus said “Fill the jars with water “…it had turned in to wine’. (Jn 2:7.9)

Jesus proclaims his Father’s Kingdom

The call to conversion. “The time has come” he said” and the Kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent and believe the Good News.”  (Mk 1:15)

The Transfiguration

Jesus reveals his glory and divinity. As he prayed…his face changed and his clothing became brilliant as lighting…and a voice came from the clouds saying, “This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him”, (Lk 9:29,35)

The institution of the Eucharist

Jesus gives us his body and blood.’…on the same night he was betrayed…Jesus took… bread ,and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said ” This is my body…”In the same way he took the cup… and said “This cup is the new covenant in my blood”. (1 Cor 11:23-25)

The Sorrowful Mysteries Tuesday & Friday

Jesus’ agony in the garden

Jesus’ is betrayed in Gethsemane. “And he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful to the point of death. Wait here, and keep awake”. (Mk 14:34)

The scourging at the pillar

Jesus is condemned to death. ‘Pilate…ordered Jesus to be first scourged and then handed over to be crucified. (Mt:27:22,26)

Jesus is crowned with thorns

The torture of Jesus. “Then they stripped him and made him wear a scarlet cloak, and having twisted some thorns into a crown they put this on his head…they spat on him…’ (Mt 27:28-30)

Jesus carries his cross

Jesus fulfils his Fathers ‘s will. “and carrying his own cross he went out of the city to…Golgotha’.   )(Jn 19:17

The Crucifixion

The death of Jesus. “Then Jesus cried out in aloud voices, he said “Father , into your hands i commit my  spirit”, With these words he breathed his last. (Lk 23:46)

The Glorious Mysteries (Wednesday and Friday)

The Resurrection

Jesus rises from the death to life. ‘But the angel spoke…”There is no need to be afraid…He is not here, for he has risen…”. (Mt 28:5-6)

The Ascension

Jesus is taken up to Heaven. “…On that day you will understand that I am in my father and you in me and I in you”.  (Jn 14:20)

Pentecost

Jesus sends the Spirit. “…when the Spirit of the truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth…”. (Jn 16:13)

The Assumption

Mary Mother of Jesus is taken body and soul into Heaven. ‘We want you to be quite certain…about those who have died, to make sure that you do not grieve about them, like other people who have no hope’. (1 Thess 4:13)

Coronation

Mary is Queen of Heaven and Earth , the glory of all the saints.’ Now a great sign appeared in Heaven: a women, adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, with twelve stars on her head for a crown’. (Rev 12:1)
